A little background…

This site has been created to highlight the bright spots in Duncan Cheney's life.

With the support of healthy friends and a caring family, Duncan has pursued opportunities to better himself, expand his understanding of other people and cultures and continue to grow internally. After meeting fantastic people in each city Duncan has lived, it clear that the people a person surrounds themselves with provides motivation and accountability for the journey.

Born and raised in Fort Scott, Kansas. Duncan is the youngest of the Cheney gang. Duncan moved to New Orleans in 2008 to work for a Hurricane Katrina-related housing non-profit, Project Homecoming. This opportunity provided Duncan with a foundation in construction, affordable housing development and a full appreciation of Mardi Gras. In 2012, Duncan purchased a New Orleans double-shotgun home in the Bayou St. John neighborhood on Dumaine Street and has continued to acquire and develop real estate for a personal portfolio and for non-profit community developers in New Orleans, LA and North Charleston, SC.

In August 2016, Duncan left behind all he knew in New Orleans and moved to the Chicora-Cherokee neighborhood of North Charleston, South Carolina to pursue a promising new venture with an asset-based community development organization, Metanoia. Duncan is the Director of Physical Assets for Metanoia and is developing community assets for the organization and neighborhood including affordable housing and revitalization of Reynolds Avenue and the adaptive reuse of the Old Chicora Elementary School.

Duncan lives in North Charleston where he and his charismatic partner, Kelly reside with their son Michael. Kelly completed her dual Master's Program in Social Work and Public Health at Tulane University in New Orleans in 2018 and currently works at a southeastern affordable housing development company based in Charleston, SC.
